Lipless Cranks
Tight-wobbling, loud-rattling baits that cover water fast and trigger reaction strikes. Lipless cranks sink, so you control the depth. Burn them over grass, rip them through vegetation, or yo-yo them on the bottom. Versatile year-round baits that catch fish in multiple conditions.
Why Lipless Cranks Work
The tight wobble creates intense vibration that bass feel through their lateral line. The loud rattle adds noise that calls fish from a distance. Because they sink, you control the depth — work them shallow or deep, fast or slow. The versatility makes lipless cranks effective year-round.
When to Fish Lipless Cranks
Spring when bass are shallow and aggressive. Burn them over grass and rip them through vegetation — the deflection triggers reaction strikes. Fall when bass are schooling and feeding on shad. Winter when bass are deep and lethargic — yo-yo them on the bottom for slow, vertical presentations. Summer when bass are chasing baitfish in open water.
How to Fish Lipless Cranks
Burning Over Grass: Fast retrieve just over the top of grass. When the bait hits grass, rip it free — the deflection triggers strikes.
Yo-Yo Retrieve: Let the bait sink to the bottom, then rip it up with a sharp snap of the rod. Let it fall back down on slack line. Repeat. Deadly in cold water and for deep fish.
Steady Retrieve: Reel at a consistent speed to cover water and locate active fish. Vary speed to change depth and vibration.
Stop-and-Go: Reel, pause, reel, pause. The bait sinks on the pause and triggers bites from followers.
