Buzzbaits (Surface Spinners)

Topwater chaos that triggers explosive strikes. Buzzbaits churn the surface with spinning blades that create noise, flash, and a wake bass can't ignore. When fish are feeding aggressively on top, nothing beats the violence of a buzzbait strike.

Why Buzzbaits Work

The blade churns water and creates surface commotion that draws fish from a distance. Bass see the wake, hear the noise, and feel the vibration — then they attack. Buzzbaits trigger reaction strikes from aggressive fish that hit because the lure looks like it's escaping.

When to Fish Buzzbaits

Early morning, late evening, and low-light conditions when bass are feeding on the surface. Stained water and heavy cover where fish rely on sound and vibration. Overcast days and pre-frontal conditions when bass are active and aggressive.

Fish them over grass, along weed lines, around docks, and through lily pads. The blade deflects off cover and keeps the lure running on top. When you see bass busting bait on the surface, tie on a buzzbait.

How to Fish Buzzbaits

Cast past your target and start reeling as soon as the bait hits the water. Keep the rod tip high and reel fast enough to keep the blade churning on the surface. Vary speed to change the noise and wake — sometimes bass want it burned, sometimes they want it slow-rolled.

When a fish blows up on the bait, resist the urge to set the hook immediately. Keep reeling until you feel weight, then drive the hook home. Most missed strikes come from setting too early.
